When you drop your car off, the first question is usually “when will it be ready?” It’s a fair one — you need your car back. The honest answer depends on the damage, the parts and the paint, but here are realistic panel beating timeframes for Hamilton drivers so you know what to expect.

The short version: minor dents and small paint repairs are often same-day or next-day; a single panel with paint is typically 2–3 working days; and larger collision jobs usually take 3–5 working days. Major structural repairs and insurance jobs can run longer.

Typical repair timeframes

Job typeTypical time
Minor dent / small scratchSame day – 1 day
Bumper repair & refinish1 – 2 days
Single panel repair + paint2 – 3 days
Multi-panel collision repair3 – 5 days
Major / structural collision repair1 – 3 weeks

What affects the timeframe

  • Extent of the damage. A surface dent is quick; damage that affects the car’s structure has to be measured, pulled back to factory spec and checked for safety — that takes longer and shouldn’t be rushed.
  • Parts availability. If a panel or part has to be replaced, the timeframe depends on how fast it can be sourced. Common parts arrive quickly; some makes and models take longer to order in.
  • Paint and curing. Colour matching, spray painting and baking a durable clear coat in a controlled booth all take time — rushing paint is how you get a finish that doesn’t last.
  • Hidden damage. What looks like a bumper knock can hide a bent bar or broken brackets underneath. A proper strip-down sometimes reveals more than the quote assumed, which can add a little time — but it’s better than a surprise later.

Why insurance repairs can take a bit longer

Insurance jobs add a few steps: the damage is documented, an assessor reviews it, and parts are authorised before work starts. We handle all of that paperwork for you, but it does add time at the front end. Good to know: in New Zealand you can choose your own repairer, and we manage insurance claims from assessment through to completion.

How to get your car back sooner

  • Send photos first. A quick photo quote lets us price the job and order any parts before your car is even in the shop.
  • Book ahead. Dropping in on spec can mean a wait; a booked slot means we’re ready for your car when it arrives.
  • Ask for a firm timeframe. We confirm a realistic completion date with your quote, so you can plan around it.

At Hamilton Panel & Paint we keep you updated at every stage, and every job — fast or involved — is finished to a standard we’re proud to stand behind. Need a repair? Get a free quote or bring your car to 15/40 Te Kowhai East Road, Burbush.
